From Breakdown to Breakfast Service: How WAM Engineering Rescued a Busy Welsh Pub Kitchen in 24 Hours
When the kitchen equipment at The Kings Head Inn in Llandovery faced issues, it was putting a lot of stress on the team to keep up with daily service.
With a failing oven, a dishwasher that had seen better days and faulty fryers, the team faced an uphill battle each day, but thanks to WAM Engineering Services, immediate help was at hand.
The WAM team were contacted after another contractor left things in a worse state than they found them, and it didn’t take long for WAM’s experienced engineers to assess the damage.
“The dishwasher was completely shot – it wasn’t economical to repair,” said Alistair Green, owner of WAM. “And the oven wasn’t far behind. We also found serious faults with the fryers, which had only been fitted recently. Poor workmanship and the wrong parts had caused ongoing issues for the kitchen staff.”
On-the-Spot Fixes with No Fuss
While a new oven and dishwasher were clearly needed, WAM were able to repair the faulty fryers on-site – saving the business time, money and stress. The previous contractor had fitted incompatible components, causing persistent faults.
“Luckily, we had the right parts on the van,” said Alistair. “We carry a good stock of common spares for this exact reason – so we can get the job done there and then, without having to come back or keep the customer waiting.”
Smart Solutions, Fast Turnaround
After assessing the damage, WAM offered the pub’s manager, Jonathan, a range of options to suit their budget and the scale of their operation. They agreed on a Retigo BlueVision oven – ideal for a venue handling regular high-volume covers – and a new Maid Aid commercial dishwasher.
Both pieces of kit were ordered, and a date was arranged for the WAM team to rip out the old equipment and install the new one.
Same Day Solutions
Both the oven and dishwasher were installed on the same afternoon, allowing the kitchen to be up and running again by breakfast the next morning.
“We’re proud of how quickly we turned this one around,” said Alistair. “From the moment we arrived, we worked to get them the best possible solution, not just a quick fix. By the end of the day, they had a smarter, more efficient kitchen setup that’s going to serve them well.”
Training That Makes a Difference
WAM didn’t just drop in the equipment and leave. They also arranged for a hands-on training session with the Retigo team so the kitchen staff could learn how to get the most from their new oven.
“It’s important that teams feel confident using the equipment we install,” Alistair explained. “A great oven is only as good as the person using it. Giving staff the right support means better food, less stress, and a more efficient kitchen overall.”
